Here’s how a Canopy Atlanta membership works:

  • Canopy Atlanta memberships start at $10/month.
  • Members get a monthly newsletter just for members and invitations to all our events.
  • They also join a community of folks who care about helping their neighborhoods thrive.
  • Canopy Atlanta Fellows and community participants receive free memberships — our way of celebrating their contributions.

If you join today — through December 31 — NewsMatch will double your membership donation for the entire year and your $120 becomes $240!

Can’t give $10/month? Your onetime donation will still make our work possible. Donations up to $1,000 will be tripled through NewsMatch and other matching donors. That means with your help, we can raise up to $55,000 to support the work we do.

Canopy Atlanta has 501(c)(3) nonprofit status with the IRS and is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News.

We are committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our organization. Accepting financial support does not mean we endorse donors or their products, services or opinions.

We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to help with our general operations, coverage of specific topics, and special projects. Our news judgments are made independently—not based on or influenced by donors. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content.

We will make public at least all donors who give $5,000 or more per year. (See a list here.) As a nonprofit, we will avoid accepting donations from anonymous sources, and we will not accept donations from government entities, political parties, elected officials, or candidates actively seeking public office. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.

A special thank you to our funders: NewsMatch, Loud Hound, and The Jonathan Logan Family Foundation.
NewsMatch is the largest collaborative fundraising campaign to support nonprofit news in the U.S., benefitting members of the INN Network. Since 2016, the campaign has helped raise over $223 million to jumpstart emerging newsrooms and support independent media outlets that produce fact-based, nonpartisan news and information. Loud Hound is a family foundation that is working to support journalism, democracy, and climate justice. The Jonathan Logan Family Foundation, based in Berkeley, CA, supports organizations that advance social justice by promoting world-changing work in investigative journalism, the arts, documentary film and democracy.
