Work With Us

Canopy Atlanta is a community-led journalism nonprofit founded in 2020 that is equipping and partnering with metro Atlantans to tell stories and create more equitable information systems. We’re seeking collaborative journalists, organizers, and community leaders to join our part-time staff (see our current team here).

Current opportunities:

Forest Park Community Liaison

Forest Park Issue Editor

Forest Park Community Liaisons

$20/hour; email hello@canopyatlanta.org to apply.

Canopy Atlanta is seeking part-time Community Liaisons to work with Forest Park residents to gather information about community assets, media coverage and community priorities. The liaisons will conduct community surveys and engage individuals through phone calls, local networks, and businesses, as well as do some in-person events and canvassing.

Ideally, you have strong ties to the Forest Park community in Clayton County, and we’d love to know if you have language skills, particularly Spanish and/or Vietnamese.

Black, Latinx, and Asian American (particularly with ties to Vietnamese communities) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Forest Park Issue Editor

Contract; ~8 hours/week for 10 weeks; $30/hour; May 2021–August 2021. Deadline: Friday, May 21. Apply here.

Canopy Atlanta is seeking a Forest Park Issue editor to work with established local journalists, Forest Park community Fellows, and Canopy staff to produce its Forest Park Issue.

Editors must have technical ability—experience editing feature and reported work for structure, content, precision, and style—and evidence of collaborative work. Unlike traditional publications, Canopy Atlanta’s mission is to facilitate collaboration between communities and journalists; therefore, the Issue Editor will work with Canopy staff to facilitate collaborations between established reporters and Canopy’s community fellows.

The editor will work with Canopy staff to evaluate pitches, shape stories, manage reporting issues, host weekly editorial meetings, and envision creative/visual components. Canopy staff will top-read all stories after drafts are completed, working with the editor to ensure stories meet our mission.

Deep ties to Forest Park or Clayton County are a major plus but not required, as are second-language skills in either Spanish or Vietnamese.

This is a freelance position, working approximately 8 hours a week for 10 weeks between May–August 2021. Compensation is $30 an hour.

Black, Latinx, and Asian American (particularly with ties to Vietnamese communities) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

To apply, please fill out this form by SUNDAY, MAY 23, and email hello@canopyatlanta.org with questions.

About Canopy Atlanta: We’re a startup nonprofit journalism organization founded last year that equips and partners with Atlantans in the metro area to report about the issues their communities care about most. We do this by engaging residents on the front end—asking what stories they want to see—then training a cohort of community fellows to report the stories alongside established local journalists. Our inaugural issue, focused on West End, came out last fall. Learn more about how we made it here.
