Community-Powered Stories

Partnering with Atlanta
Canopy Atlanta partners with Atlantans to choose, report, and present journalism responding to community needs, helping residents tell stories about the issues that matter most to them.
55+ Listening Respondents
To choose the stories in this issue, Canopy Atlanta connected with more than 55 South DeKalb community members and convened 11 South DeKalb residents to serve on the Community Editorial Board and help guide story angles.
4 Journalism Fellows
Canopy Atlanta paid and trained four South DeKalb community members—our Fellows—to learn journalism skills over a six-week program. They worked with other journalists to report and write the stories in this issue.
Meet Our
South DeKalb
Team
Our four South DeKalb Fellows partnered with local journalists to produce the South DeKalb Issue. Canopy Atlanta provided instruction and mentorship in reporting skills through a six-week paid training program.

Our South DeKalb Community Editorial Board helped us refine the story angles in the issue based on feedback collected from more than 55 South DeKalb community members.

Local journalists, photographers, and illustrators contributed to our South DeKalb Issue, working on stories based on the community’s feedback or in collaboration with South DeKalb Fellows.
