Support our Work during NewsMatch

Support community-powered journalism. Donate today.

From now until December 31, NewsMatch will double the impact of your donations Canopy Atlanta. We need your help to meet our goal.

Since Canopy Atlanta launched last year, we’ve:

  • produced award-winning, free journalism in collaboration with communities in West End and Forest Park
  • trained 10 community members as Fellows to build their neighborhoods’ abilities to keep accessing information and telling stories
  • enabled hundreds of metro Atlantans to participate actively in the production of journalism about their communities
  • highlighted perspectives of teens, immigrants, and others whose voices were absent from local coverage
  • won three Atlanta Press Club awards and received recognition from Columbia Journalism Review, ProPublica, Nieman Lab, and many others

Join us in this work, and help keep creating paid opportunities for Atlantans to choose, produce, and present journalism by Atlanta, with Atlanta.

Canopy Atlanta has 501(c)(3) nonprofit status with the IRS and is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News.

We are committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our organization. Accepting financial support does not mean we endorse donors or their products, services or opinions.

We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to help with our general operations, coverage of specific topics, and special projects. Our news judgments are made independently—not based on or influenced by donors. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content.

We will make public at least all donors who give $5,000 or more per year. (See a list here.) As a nonprofit, we will avoid accepting donations from anonymous sources, and we will not accept donations from government entities, political parties, elected officials, or candidates actively seeking public office. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.
