NPU-J Meeting

NPU-J includes the neighborhoods of Center Hill, Dixie Hills, Grove Park, Harvel Homes, Penelope Neighbors, and West Lake. NPUs are official, volunteer-managed organizations that provide input to the City of Atlanta on public safety, permits, land use, planning (including variances & zoning), liquor licenses, and special events & festivals, among other neighborhood matters. There are 25 NPUs across the city. They were created by Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson in 1974 to elevate resident voices. NPUs typically meet once a month to conduct business. The City of East Point operates under a city council form of government. The City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and is approved by an eight-member city council, which is led by the mayor who serves a four-year term with veto power. The mission of the West End Neighborhood Development (WEND) is to continuously revitalize West End. WEND annually sponsors family-friendly, community-centric events like the Egg Hunt, Tour of Homes, and the Summer Music Concert, and plays a vital role in maintaining the beautification, safety, and preservation of the neighborhood. The Reparations Task Force Meeting

The Reparations Task Force serves as an advisory body to the Board of Commissioners to investigate and provide recommendations to the Board of Commissioners regarding priorities, objectives, and policies which will support the revitalization, preservation, and stabilization of the Black/African American population in Fulton County in the form of reparations. Clarkston City Council Meeting

The City of Clarkston functions under the council-manager form of government. This system of local government combines the strong political leadership of elected officials in the form of a council, with the strong managerial experience of an appointed local government manager. The Clarkston city council serves primarily as a legislative body; its members are the community’s decision makers. They serve as the leaders and policymakers elected to represent the community and to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to citizens’ needs and wishes. Members of the elected council are responsible for approving the budget and determining the tax rates. The council also focuses on the community’s goals, major projects, and such long-term considerations as community growth, land use development, capital improvement plans, capital financing, and strategic planning. Atlanta Citizen Review Board Meeting

The ACRB provides citizen oversight of misconduct accusations against Atlanta police and corrections departments. Residents can submit complaints directly to the ACRB, which investigates and may recommend disciplinary action to APD. It was created in 2008 and is the only citizen-powered entity with oversight of a police department in Georgia. They meet every second Thursday of each month. NPU-I serves the Collier Heights Community. Neighborhood Planning Units (NPUs) are citizen advisory councils that make recommendations to the Atlanta Mayor and Atlanta City Council on zoning, land-use, licensing, and other planning issues. The NPU system was established in 1974 by Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson to provide an opportunity for citizens to participate actively in the Comprehensive Development Plan, which is Atlanta’s vision for the next 5, 10, and 15 years.
