When Canopy Atlanta asked Tri-Cities residents what they wanted to see from our reporting, they often mentioned how major landmarks have brought more attention to their neighborhoods over time.
Community members remember how they came to the area, often to work for either Delta Air Lines and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Now residents feel the impact of the Porsche Experience Center. They say tourism is growing, though as one resident noted, “nicer townhomes in Hapeville” that “are not very affordable” have also cropped up.
But as Canopy found during the making of our Tri-Cities issue, the number of resources for people who actually live in the area—and want to stay there for its small-town charm—is also growing.
With our Tri-Cities asset map, Canopy aimed to show how this is happening next door to well-established schools and arts organizations. The map features new artist studios. A new Arden’s Garden location that has become a sign of life at Old National Highway. A vegan market built off a grant by the American Heart Association. And doctor’s offices, ready to serve after Atlanta Medical Center-South closed in 2022.
Below, hover over each dot on our Tri-Cities map to see how locations surfaced in community listening and Canopy’s reporting.
